NEW HAVEN REPUBLICAN JOHN CARLSON ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR MAYOR

· Press Release,Mayor,2021 Elections

NHRTC is happy to announce that John Carlson is campaigning for Mayor of New Haven.  Carlson was born and raised in the city and has been an advocate for New Haven residents for years; reopening a long closed Little League, petitioning the city for and getting permit parking & speed bumps, getting Portsea Street repaved, and calling attention to the numerous sidewalks and streets that need to be repaired or replaced.

Carlson was born and raised in New Haven.  Carlson attended K-8 school in New Haven and majored in Carpentry at Eli Whitney High School in Hamden.  He went on to Gateway Community College  then transferred to Southern Connecticut State University to earn his B. A. in History and B. S. in Education.

Carlson is a family man with 5 siblings, 2 daughters and was a primary caregiver to his mother in her waning years as she suffered from dementia.  His mom was a NHPS lunch lady and his father was a custodian at Prince St. School.  A grandson of immigrants, Carlson was the first in his family to earn a college degree.  Prior to becoming a teacher, he worked in construction, various manufacturing facilities, managed Sears Parts Department in Hamden and worked with incarcerated youth.  Carlson also held his Real Estate Sales License for over 20 years and supervised after school programs where he created budgets, made personnel decisions, scheduled programs and supervised employees.

Carlson has a wide range of work experience, cares deeply about the city, and has over 20 years’ experience as an inner-city classroom teacher.  The city of New Haven needs a mayor with varied life and work experiences, and we know voters will make the right choice!
